Film Crews, Pirates and Vikings!

Before we set up our successful Pirates! fund-raising weekend (a HUGE thank you to all who came along to see us!), we played host to a film crew from The Travel Channel. They asked as to recreate 1000s Scotland, and we were definitely up for the challenge! Volunteer Denise spoke about the food of the time, and recreated some medieval dishes.
Part of the production’s remit was also to talk about the history of the Highland Games – a Scottish tradition that has spread around the globe. Volunteer Scott gave the information and fellow volunteer Lee obligingly tossed a caber for them!

The Pirates! event itself was well received by visitors to The Village. As well as recreating areas of pirate life, we put our younger visitors through musket drill (don’t worry, we didn’t give them actual guns), and ‘sold’ some of our visitors as ‘booty’! The amazingly talented artist Christopher Rutterford – who used some of the Clanranald volunteers as models for his fantastic Bannockburn mural – also joined us for the weekend. He helped us raise funds by holding a raffle, with the winners having their faces painted into a pirate-themed artwork. He also brought along his brilliant ‘Tam O’Shanter’ work, which was displayed at our longhouse. Pictures from the film shoot and the Pirates! event can be found by clicking HERE.

You’d think we’d take a wee break, but that’s not really our thing! As well as hosting another filming project (details to follow), we are also gearing up to hold our final fund-raiser at The Village of the summer season. Our Viking event will be held on the last weekend of August, and we’ll be bringing the Norse people to life, talking about their history in Scotland – along with some hands-on fun for all ages. More details can be found by navigating using the ‘events’ tab at the top of the page, or by clicking HERE. If you’re on Facebook and planning to pay us a visit, you can add yourself to our official event page by clicking HERE.

Aztecs And Pirates!

Our Spirit of DunCarron fund-raising event was a huge success, and a special thank you goes out to everyone who put the event together, performed at it and to all those who came along to visit us! Photos from the event can be viewed by clicking HERE.

Our next fund-raiser at DunCarron is a pirate-themed fun-filled two day event, taking place on Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th of August. Details of the event can be found HERE (Or by navigating by using the ‘events’ tab). If you’re on Facebook, you can add yourself to our official event page by clicking HERE.

Once again, we’d like to thank all of the visitors who come to our fund-raising events at DunCarron. We receive no funding other than the funds we raise ourselves, so your support is invaluable! Like and follow our Facebook and Twitter accounts to keep up-to-date with our project.
